# beacon skills

> Install the Beacon Skills for every project, or remove them

## Command overview

`beacon skills install` installs the [Beacon Skills](/concepts/beacon-skills) into the
user-level skill directories agent runtimes read, so every project on this machine sees
them. `beacon skills uninstall` removes the copies Beacon installed.

```bash title="Command syntax" theme={null}
beacon skills install
beacon skills uninstall
```

The interactive [`beacon endpoint install`](/cli/endpoint-onboarding#agent-tools) runs
`beacon skills install` for you unless you turn the Beacon agent skills off in the wizard.

The skills are carried in the `beacon` binary, so installing them needs no network. They go to:

| Directory | Read by |
| - | - |
| `~/.agents/skills` | Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Pi and other runtimes that read the shared location |
| `~/.claude/skills` (or `$CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR/skills`) | Claude Code. Written only when Claude Code is set up on this machine |

Each skill directory Beacon writes carries a `.beacon-managed` marker. Beacon replaces or
removes only directories that carry it, so a skill of the same name that you wrote or
installed another way is left alone.

Running `beacon skills install` again updates Beacon's copies. Every
`beacon endpoint install` and `beacon endpoint repair` also brings them up to date with
the installed binary, so an upgrade never leaves an agent following instructions for
commands that changed. Neither ever installs skills you removed.

If you also installed the Beacon plugin from a marketplace, a harness may list the skills
twice: once from the plugin and once from the user-level directory. Remove one copy with
`beacon skills uninstall` or by uninstalling the plugin.
